  • Hello Angela, How are you? Anxiety under control? I hope you are well. SIL went for follow up memory assessment this morning. Didn’t go well. She needs a brain scan but told there is a six month waiting list mmm. BIL hesitating possibly re cost but Mrs Garviv and I will intervene if necessary. BIL ringing GP for advice . Keep well Garviv

  • Oh Garviv, its so worrying for you all. Poor SIL, I hope its something that can be fixed. 6 months is ridiculous time to wait with all that uncertainty, when perhaps with the scan treatment can be started. Its just the not knowing. My heart goes out to all of you. As you know I am a strong believer in the NHS, last year my son needed a cardiac MRI and was put on the ‘urgent list’ I didnt discover till i phoned that it was a minimum 20 week wait !! I paid privately and had it done 5 days later. Its grossly unfair that we are put in that position , we dont have health insurance, however I would sell an organ to fund it, couldnt bare to see the stress of having to wait 20 weeks. I happily swallowed my principles to see him ok. He was fine in the end thank god. I wish you good luck and yes push the GP for advice of how to get this sorted.xx

  • Morning Angela, I’m so glad everything worked out with your son. We would have done the same for our children /grandchildren. I totally concur with your views regarding the NHS. After a decade or more of underfunding and greater patient expectations and needs no wonder the system is creaking. My recent family experiences in Hospital A&E corridors and now this is frustrating. My SIL’s son has finally intervened and has started to organise a brain scan which could come as early as next week ( fingers crossed) then hopefully she will receive treatment she deserves. Thank you for caring. Garviv

  • Morning Garviv, that is good news that she will get the scan very soon. please god it will hasten any treatment needed. Take care Garviv, my day consists of eye test and ‘big shop’ , hope you have something more interesting to do xx

    Much love Angela x

  • Hello Angela, Enjoy your day. Don’t forget the Lime Pickle. Going to see one of my golf partners. He is having an operation on his Achilles on Friday. Cup of tea and put the world to right. He lives near Hoghton Tower where King James VI knighted the beef he was given “Sir Loin” hence Sirloin Steak. I’ve got my flexible cystoscopy date, my brother’s birthday 27th January. Garviv

  • Hi Angela, don't feel too guilty about swallowing your principles. I was faced with the same three or four years ago, a molar needed root canal and my nice NHS dentist [I still sit in on her seeing OH] said politely but bluntly,

"the NHS only funds root canal work on single root [ie front] teeth. So I can take it out, or if you want to keep it you will have to go private. "

So I did, but realised that by doing so I am making space for someone to see an NHS dentist who doesn't have the luxury of the residue of a legacy to spend going private as I did.
