A question 6 weeks after first TURBT

Hi. I'm new here, having just had my first TURBT one day short of six weeks ago. Was very happy to find the Macmillan forums. My second TURBT is scheduled for mid-September. I'm told I have High Grade T1 bladder cancer.
Of late, I suspected I might have a urinary tract infection, as I'd finally started to urinate clear to mild yellow urine without pain, but then began passing noticeably cloudy urine and with some burning sensation or irritation.
I asked for a lab order for a urinalysis, and received that order and gave a sample Thursday afternoon (today is Saturday). So, I'm awaiting results.
Today, I passed a small clot or two and what may have been a piece of scab.
That surprised me a bit, as I'd thought that stage was past. But, on second thought, I am on two blood thinners due to a heart condition, so I suppose it's  possible the healing of my TURBT site might be a bit slower than someone not on blood thinners.
My question, I suppose, is what's the experience here: Is passing a small clot and a bit of scab six weeks after the first TURBT no big deal?
Thank you.
Mark

  • Hi  and  welcome to the group. Going from experience, it does sound like a possible infection and hopefully when you get your sample results they will be able to sort it for you. Here in the UK, we usually get results within 24 hours. As far as blood or clots weeks after TUBT, it can happen. I passed a lot of blood about 6 weeks after my first TURBT. My nurse just told me to drink plenty of water to flush things out or get back to her if it continued. Thankfully it was a one off for me. I hope all goes well for you. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Thanks, rily.
I'll be certain to give my urology nurse a call on Monday morning.
I indeed did pass quite a bit of blood, including clots, the first four weeks. I guess I expected to be past that.
In any case, I'll look further into it.
I am, in all, quite happy to be feeling as well as I do.

  • Dang. Visible blood in the urine today, pretty much all day.
Either I'm a slow healer, or somethings up in the bladder, I"m afraid.
I think the mental side of dealing with bladder cancer is as tough as the physical aspect.

  • Hi MarkinUS

Welcome to this group, but sorry to hear about your ongoing problems.

Hopefully you can get some answers regarding the blood in your wee soon. I think most people that have TURBTs will see blood and scabs in the wee, but mine probably only lasted three or so weeks.

Even then it's always a shock to see things like this in the toilet bowl after a wee, even when you are expecting them.

I was told to drink lot's of water to keep the bladder flushed.

Unfortunately I can't really give any additional advice, but I hope you get it addressed soonest.

I agree that the mental aspect is tough, especially at the beginning.

Keep us updated and take care.

  • Hi MarkinUS,Welcome to our friendly group.I’m so sorry you are still having problems.I hope your nurse is able to help.Best wishes Jane

  • Well, urinalysis results came in, and it turns out I do have a a urinary tract infection. Picked up my prescribed antibiotic on the way to work today, so hopefully that will help resolve this.
It's a funny thing when you're sort of glad it's "just" a UTI ... such is life after a bladder cancer diagnosis, eh? :)

  • Great news. Garviv

  • I hope you feel better soon.Love Jane

  • Thank you all for your comments.
I do realize that I'm simply having a learning moment along the way in what is (hopefully) a long journey.
That journey is made much easier by having this community available.
