  • Hello, good morning bewildered 50. Good to hear you are doing well. Garviv

  • Great news bewildered 50, you've clearly taken the process in your stride. So glad you've had the loving support of family. I'm sure others will be keen to hear your experiences, when they start off down the road to recovery. With love H x

  • Could I ask a question? And this is maybe my last worry. So it's been around 6 months since my bladded removal. And they said they would do a check up in 6 months but not heard anything yet. But my question is really about what this checkup is? I mean I had a ton of scans but yet no-one picked up on the cancer until a kidney stone removal. So why wasn't it picked up earlier, and what will they do at at the next checkup that will do any better?

So why do I ask? Well my dad went though bladder cancer, then prostate cancer, then well, it went all over and so I do worry that I'm going down the same same path. It's probably, (no IS my biggest concern)

  • Hi MagicMirror,I would chase this up.6 months seems a long time to wait for the first check up post op.I saw my consultant after a scan and had bloods taken. That was 4 months post op.I had scans every 6 months until I was moved onto annual scans last year.I’m almost 5 yrs post cystectomy.Love Jane x

  • I agree about chasing up - suggest contact the consultant's secretary. Follow up tests depends on pre-op stage/grade & post op path report. I was low risk, had bloods & chest X ray plus either ultrasound or renogram (for neobladder) every 3 months for 2 years, then every 6 months for 2 years. Some people will have CT scans.

Now I'm on annual follow up, just bloods & ultrasound.

  • Chase this up urgently.

I had my check up, biopsy report, scan and bloods 2 months after robot assisted radical cystectomy. It was decided I needed further surgery to remove urethra so yes it’s important to get the follow up.

Am now 7 months on from Cystectomy and 3 months from urethrectomy. Pretty much back to normal but could do with regaining a bit of the weight I lost pre and post op.
