Anyone had hernia problems after cystectomy
Hello Harrington and welcome to the group. Not had this myself, but the subject does come up here now and again. Hopefully someone with experience will be along to offer some help. Best wishes.
Hi Harrington,
I developed a right-side inguinal hernia almost a year after surgery due to a bad cough, I believe this side was weakened due to surgery in 2020.
Because of my Cystectomy I had to have open surgery which I put off for a few more months until I felt confident enough, this left a seven-inch scar and was more painful than the radical cystectomy that I experienced.
Since the hernia surgery I have no further problems regarding this issue.
All the best...
Hi Harrington, I had radical cystectomy last year, also followed with small bowel resection surgery due to complications, already had umbilical hernia pre surgery, my inguinal hernia started to develop slowly during recovery period, now rather large with three holes and waiting to see general surgeon to see if a repaire can be done, in the meantime I wear a hernia support belt, taking it easy with any lifting, unfortunately also waiting surgery to remove lung nodule with more importance, so the hernia will have to wait lol, It is very common to develop hernia after cystectomy surgery, your urology surgeon will keep a watch on it and refer you if needed to general surgeon, best of luck.
