Hello everyone, was diagnosed with bladder cancer "a secondary" ,mid March, my primary being terminal LAP. and would like to know if any of you had any advice on things "i do not mean medical"that may help or aggravate it. I know it may seem a minor issue for many of you, but as i am dealing with multiple cancers, every little heps, take car. Eddie
Hello eddiel and welcome to the group but I see you are no stranger to the community in other groups. As regards trying to look after your bladder we are always advised to keep drinking plenty of water to keep debris flushed out and help prevent blockages. Avoid strong tea or coffee as these are irritants to the bladder. Fizzy drinks are also out. I hope these little things help. Best wishes.
I drink plenty of water. But in addition, I love a hot drink when its cold, so I love an occasional hot chocolate. I also find fruit teas are nice. Especially the Berry ones.
I agree with Riley, avoid caffeine and fizzy drinks. I have cut right back on alcohol too, as It dehydrated and irritates my bladder. I don't abstain all together though. If I out with friends for a nice meal, I do have a glass or two of wine. My secret is to make sure I ask for a jug of water and I drink plenty of that alongside the wine.
Take care and much love ️ Jane xx
Thank you for replying rily, my bladder is easily irritated so avoid caffeine and stopped drinking alcohol 30 years ago, My staples are water, decaf tea and occasional weakish bovril, Is their any merit to summer fruit and cranberry juice being beneficial, but thank you for confirming what i have been doing is good, take care, Eddie
Hi Eddie. Over the years I have been advised to drink cranberry juice by numerous doctors and nurses. I have a glass every day with my breakfast. It does not fight cancer but is believed to help prevent UTIs and keep the bladder clean. The theory is it helps stopping bacteria from sticking to the bladder lining. It can be an irritant to some people though. Best wishes.
Hi Tina,
I have had a long and anxious 5 and a half weeks waiting for the results of my first turbt. My letter finally yesterday and it sounds like it's good news.
I didn't get the pathology report, I was just told that my type of Cancer is superficial and that this is good news. That is a huge relief, though I'd have liked a more specific report. I have to go in for a follow up surgery on 21st Dec. They want to take samples to check if the report is accurate and make sure everything is OK. Then I will get instillations into my bladder. That's just how it was worded so I don't know whether that means I'll be getting BCG or chemo. I am going to phone on Monday and ask questions about it. I'm happy and relieved though. I am glad you are down to every 6 months now. It is still always something you can never really put aside though is it? But that's looking really good gor you Tina. I'm beginning to see from others posts that BC is something we have to learn to live with. But I'm generally a positive person and so I'll try to stay as upbeat and as healthy as I can be throughout this journey.
Lots of love to you. Take care xx
