Uroethial cancer.

Been diagnosed with uroethial cancer. Which gets treated the same as bladder cancer I believe.

Took 6 months for proper diagnosis as was told it was ovarian cancer. By this time my cancer is stage 3 locally advanced.

I have just finished 6 cycles of Chemotherapy in hope of the possibility of surgery. My cancer has responded really well to the chemotherapy however been now told I can't get surgery as the cancer remaining is around a major blood vessel which would make surgery difficult. I will now be starting immunotherapy. I am so scared and can't stop crying.

  • Hi Susie123, sorry to hear of your troubles to get diagnosis. I'm afraid it is often true of women's diagnosis that bladder cancer is mistaken for some kind of gynaecological issue. I went to my GP 3 times over 3 years to report blood in my urine and got prescribed hormone creams or antibiotics. My bladder tumour had grown huge by the time I changed GPs and got properly referred to Urology. As my cancer was contained in the bladder and the tumour grew on a stalk I was lucky that the spread was not muscle invasive. Nonetheless I had 3 years (27 doses) of BCG with the cancer returning 4 times before I got an all clear. The good news is that there are many different treatments for BC, and immunotherapy has a good record of containing things for many patients. Do you have a Clinical Nurse Specialist? If you do I would ring and explain how scared you are feeling, there are various support agencies who might help, including Macmillan phone lines. Talking through your feelings can bring relief for tension. In the meanwhile we are here and hopefully someone else receiving immunotherapy will get in touch to share their experiences. Sending you best wishes H x

  • Hi Susie123,I’m sorry to hear that surgery would be too risky. There have been others here in your position so hopefully they will be along to share their experiences.I hope the counselling helps.Love and best wishes Jane xx

  • Hello Susie123, I’m sorry I cannot offer you any practical advice. I have been having treatment for bladder cancer:- surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, Mitomycin, BCG for five years or more. I have dark thoughts now and again but try to remain positive. I’m glad you have an appointment with an oncologist. I do hope it helps. Garviv

  • Very reasonable to feel scared. xx. Good to be seeing Oncologist so soon, the waiting between consultations is so hard. Hope they can give you some reassurance. Sending a hug. xx
