I went to see my Urology Sister on Thursday and she informed me at long last my initial bladder infection had gone and I could carry on with my BCG Instillation programme. I was so relieved after waiting nearly seven weeks. I was given another dose of BCG with another five to follow. Slight tingling and irritation last night but OK today. I played golf this morning and have prepared a curry dish by Nisha Katona of This Morning and Mowgli Restaurants fame. “Angry Bird” with Naan Bread, Salad and Rice. Beer and wine mandatory. Garviv
Hi . Good to know you can finally get on with your treatment. I hope it goes well. Curry evening sounds interesting. No golf for a while according to weather forecast. Best wishes.
Hi Garviv, at last! So pleased the treatment can progress. You don’t need me to tell you the BCG mantra “drink drink drink” keep flushing the bladder, everyday not just dose days. Your Friday night curries sound like the business hope you felt able to enjoy. Hx
Thanks H, Yes the curry was very good. Great advice lots of water during the next six weeks. Garviv
Hi Garviv, I am in a similar position to this. I have now missed 3 weeks of bcg due to an ongoing virus . I am worried sick to be honest that all this time is being wasted. You see I have long covid and it seems to take much longer to get over the usual bugs that people get, and I seem to pick them up easier. I am dreading that this is going to keep happening. My nurse just repeats dont worry, its not that easy . I am sorry to jump on your thread like this but i struggled to find posts of people who had missed weeks of bcg. Can i ask what kind of reassurance you were given about missing out ? I hope its been going well for you. Much love Angela xx

Good Morning Angela,
I am so sorry to hear you have been unwell and not able to receive your BCG treatment. I understand your frustration and fears. I had one BCG instillation then the naughty infection prevented further treatment for several weeks. Eventually started instillations again. I had six more instillations, seven in total but at my final appointment they discovered anther mild infection. I have completed the programme now. I have been living with cancer for over five years now. I had an initial tumour removed and have had two recurrences, myriad cystoscopies and a course of Mitomycin and now BCG for superficial tumours. Bladder cancer is part of my life now. The annoying thing is I feel really well. I am fit and active for a seventy three year old man. I play golf five times a week and walk my fifteen year old chocolate Labrador several times a day. My Urology nurse told me repeatedly not to worry and that urine infections are common during BCG treatment. She said the BCG now will be working in my bladder to hopefully reduce or eliminate the superficial tumours. I will be having a rigid cystoscopy and biopsy in six weeks. What stage in your cancer treatment are you at? I should imagine they will re-evaluate your treatment programme to account for delays. I took my old chocolate Labrador for a stroll at 7.00 am it was overcast but dry and mild. I was due to play golf this morning but we have had torrential rain since 08.30 am. Hope I was able to put your mind at rest. Let’s hope you start your treatment again soon. Garviv
Morning Garviv, thank you so much for your reassuring post. I am fairly new to this, only diagnosed in April with high risk NMIBC . I was anxious to get started on treatment following the 2nd TURBT and had 1 BCG instillation which went well. Since then , the past few weeks have been awful to be honest. Both my husband and I got a nasty virus, my son had really bad recurring tonsillitis, so much so that he has had to cancel his holiday to vienna :( . The worst of all was my beautiful king charles cavvy passed away. I am heartbroken and suspect it isnt helping me recover from this virus. Sorry for the rant Garviv , I just needed to get it out.
you have a very positive outlook and that is inspiring and reassuring to me . Your reply has lightened my load a bit and I thank you.
The weather here in manchester is bucketing down also. Hope you get out for a round of golf soon. I will keep you posted on my treatment if thats ok. I will find out next week i suppose . Much love to you Angela x
