I had my op August 2022 and lost a stone quite quickly. Not surprising since my appetite was poor. However, I have lost another stone despite eating quite well although nowhere near what I ate before.

Is this normal?

  • Hi Jenny,They told me that a stone to a stone and a half weight loss is common after cystectomy.I was very underweight but I wasn’t eating much.I think if it was me I would probably ask about it as you are still eating quite well. How do you feel in yourself ? Love Jane xx

  • Thanks Jane. I feel OK ish. Stress is taking its toll on me and probably not helping. Also my bowels are not right yet. I have 2 or 3 days of constipation, where I eat well, then poo properly and have upset tummy for a few days  so don't eat much.

Am loving being able to eat cake without putting on weight though lol

  • Your body has done a lot of healing. Even when I was back to more normal routines, I still carried a snack pot with me (dark chocolate, mini shredded wheat & dried fruit) or snack bars to supplement between meals & keep my energy up. Stopped when my weight started to go above target!

  • Stress really does take its toll.I found the bowels took a few months to settle. It is a big operation and it takes time to fully recover.Love Jane xx

  • I lost over 2 stone, took me months to get back to where I was before operation.I think that’s normal. It’s a huge operation
