Hi everyone,
Had my TURBT May 2021 then various BCG treatments, the last one (completion) in November 2022.
However, after the last treatment, I have been getting pain when peeing. I saw the urology nurse about 10 weeks ago who said it was probably inflamation and arranged a further cystoscopy this last Wednesday (25 Jan)
This showed no sign of cancer but a lot of inflamation still. Apparently, there is nothing they can do about it and said it was due to the BCG tretment and quite common. It is hoped to gradually heal and I have another cystoscopy in 6 weeks.
I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this for such a long time?
Thanks for any replies,
Jackaroo
Hi Jackaroo, I had my final dose of BCG in July 2021, and my bladder has continued to look pretty inflamed in all my 2022 cystoscopies. However I haven't had any more tumours so I'll settle for inflamed. I don't have pain when peeing but I do have to nip to the loo fairly frequently, particularly if I drink something which irritates like coffee. My solution is drink, drink, drink. 2 litres of lemon barley water every day. I'm glad to be alive to do it. H x
Hello Jackaroo, yes I still suffer with BCG inflammation to this day. I had my last instillation September 2021 and since then all my cystoscopy's have shown my bladder to be inflamed. Like you they don't offer any help for the pain and discomfort which I find hard to accept simply because it has an effect on my quality of life. Strangely it doesn't hurt when I pee but I get after pain which often comes in waves. It also hurts to hold it but I'm not necessarily running to the loo every 5 minutes. I sleep okay because it seems to ease off as the evening progresses. You are always aware that it can kick in anytime with no warning. I actually have a cystoscopy in the morning which I'm not looking forward to because it'll stir up the trouble even more. I'm told, like you, that it will heal eventually but 16 months so far is a long wait! I appreciate that so far I have had no recurrence and the last biopsies taken last July showed only inflammation.
Keep us informed on how you progress with your symptoms.
Good luck tomorrow Jacaranda07. Keep us posted. x
Thankyou, obviously none of us look forward to going through that, at least the procedure is a fairly swift one.
I hope all goes well tomorrow Chris.Love and best wishes Jane
Thankyou Jane, very much appreciated.
Take care Chris
Yes thank you. I'm now back home after an early appointment. I was expecting it to be a painful experience as it was last time but thankfully no pain just a bit of discomfort. Nothing untoward seen in there just a bit of inflammation on one wall of the bladder. It had calmed down from since my biopsies were taken but it still gives me grief.
The nurse who carried out the procedure has recommended I have a "top up" of Ialuril which I have had before to help reline the damaged bladder. Next cystoscopy in 6 months time, hooray.
Good to hear it is inflammation only but I know how painful this can be.I hope the laluril will help.Best wishes Jane
