When I have finished 9 weeks of bcg/mitomycin does anyone know how long after that I would be offered an appointment for general or local look into the bladder, one nurse said it could be 6 weeks?? Maybe it depends on the grade the cancer was etc as to how long they leave you. Just a rough guide, if people remember how long they waited would be good to know.
It has always been 6 weeks for me between end of mito/BCG and cystoscopy (I have always had a Flexi not a rigid under GA but am intermediate risk)
Hi, it's always a minimum of 6 weeks to ideally allow redness caused by the actual treatment to fade, otherwise they can't tell if it might be redness due to cancer cells. It sometimes gets left a few weeks more if they are busy. Shouldn't be a problem I don't think. Always bother the consultant's secretary or your CNS [cancer nurse specialist ]if you are concerned.
General vs local may be down to other factors like how easy it is to get the camera in with only a local - my OH had to have a general one time due to strictures, but they have managed with him awake since.
Hope this helps,
Denby
Thanks that's helpful, I am high risk unfortunately, have yours always been clear and how long have you been having the camera checks.
Thanks Denby, so at least I might have a "normal" 6 weeks in which I can plan things and enjoy life. I feel very well at present, it's always hard to believe that there is anything wrong.
Thanks, so it seems like it will be 6 weeks. Is he doing ok
He is thanks, had a problem with urine retention after his last cystoscopy so had to an overnight stay in hospital and had to have a catheter, which he really didn’t like like!, biopsy results were no cancer cells found and he starts 3 more weeks on Friday of maintenance BCG, so we are hopeful with how things are going. Hope all goes well for you and your results are good, enjoy your 6 weeks of respite from hospitals and treatment. Jean.
Thanks Jean. That's good to hear. Mine was grade 3 PT1 so just hoping we have kicked it out the bladder with this treatment, trying to be as positive as you can be. It's tricky isn't it. Some people here have been lucky
My husbands is grade 3 T1 also, we are feeling optimistic but there’s always a feeling that things can change, but I suppose that’s the same with everything in life. Jean.
Yes I feel the same, I also think could it have been growing again since last Turbt in Sept, its 4 months so who knows what might be going on but you have to try and feel hopeful don't you. Did they say your husband should have RC, that's what they advised so I know it's a bit a of a gamble going down the bcg route. I just think of the people on here that have been successful and hold onto that.
