Hi all
i had my TURBT on the 2nd December went ok not as bad as what I thought, a 1-2 cm superficial tumour removed no chemo wash was given as was thought not necessary.
However received results yesterday Ta G2, consultant said no further treatment apart from flexi in 6 months, which worried me as no chemo wash was given, so requested a 3 month which he agreed to but said 6 months would have been ok.
I know a Ta is a good result but not that sure on the G2
Hope you all are doing ok
Hi Poppy, I think you were wise to request a 3 month flexi, since immediately after your first diagnosis, you’d have been carrying loads of anxiety if they’d left it 6 months. It is the regular monitoring schedule which helps one cope when the bladder cancer journey first begins. It won’t be long before you see longer gaps between screening as a promotion. After 4 years of BCG treatment I was thrilled when they said I could progress to 6 month cystoscopies! My diagnosis was T1 Grade 2. and here I am 5 and a half years on living a fit healthy life so try not to let the Grade worry you too much. The great thing is there are many different proven treatments for Bladder cancer so if the Urology Team feel it’s necessary I’m sure they won’t hesitate to act. Sending love H x
Hi Poppy. What you have been offered seems to fall in line with NICE guidelines which state TaG2 under 3mm should be followed up with cystoscopy in less than 6 months. Good to know you should be having a follow up at 3 months as it cuts own on he anxiety. I hope all goes well. Best wishes.
Thank you H
Must admit I was extremely surprised when he said 6 months and even more surprised no treatment of some degree.
Must admit just knowing has helped the anxiety, I was a mess most of the time waiting for the results. But I have found my voice and a fight in me to challenge what doesn’t feel right.
good to hear you’re doing good and you’re living a fit and healthy life x
Treatment is not given without good reason. BCG can have very nasty side effects, so not be undertaken lightly. Good to know that is there as an option if you get recurrence/progression. My brother had several recurrences, including G2, but was eventually discharged after a sufficient time clear. Hope all goes well for you.
I can certainly back up Teasswill regarding the BCG. I must admit I was given the choice of BCG or radical cystectomy, I jumped in straightaway for the BCG option because like so many others I didn't want to lose my bladder. However on reflection I don't think I received the necessary information giving me the full facts about the downside of BCG. I cannot complain too much because it has so far kept cancer away but I have suffered quite a bit with pain and discomfort attributed to BCG.
On reflection I would probably have made the same choice but I was unprepared of what was to come. I will say I am probably an exception to the rule because many on here have sailed through the instillations and not looked back. Poppy24 I wish you well, you are in good company.
Thank you Teasswill for your message, I totally agree treatment shouldn’t be given if there is no reason, but unfortunately have seen other posts with the same stage and grading are given treatment, I suppose what’s really nothing me is that a Chemo wash wasn’t given after the TURBT, and listening to the consultant telling me there is a possibility of rogue cells on removal. I’m in such an early stage of this journey, I’m trying to just learn to trust.
Great news for your Brother. Hope you’re doing well yourself x
