Hi, Had my Turbt back in 2019 and after another bout of surgery 5 months later to remove another cancerous bit, all now seems quite , my problem is after each cystoscopy to check on my bladder I seem to pick up a bladder infection. Drink loads of water, even tried cranberries but nothing seems to stop these infections moving in, and they take some moving with multiple antibiotics in the end,and they are not pleasant with all their side effects. All I get told is drink lots of water which I do!! So any ideas or advice as to how I can stop this happening each time I have a cystoscopy, it is a horrible cycle each time.
Hi janeysw, rather than plain water my old GP advised properly diluted Robinson's Lemon Barley Water. [not the fruit'n'barley stuff, it's not the same], say a bottle-worth in 24 hours at the onset of cystitis.
Also worth, always check with your trusted pharmacist, some of the gut-friendly bacteria capsules. Both ones to remedy the damage done to your gut 'biome' by the previous antibiotics, and the specially-for-women ones which ladies take against eg thrush. Perhaps having stacks of good bacteria around the cystoscope insertion site will help ward off the ones that have been plaguing you.
Hope this helps.

Hi janeysw,I feel for you having been through the same after TURBT/cystoscopy.Have a look at the cystitis and overactive bladder foundation website, they may have some tips to help.Being on the correct antibiotics is important and making sure that a repeat sample is sent off for testing afterwards.I picked up a rarer type of streptococcus after the last TURBT.It took a long time to culture in the lab and was particularly hard to shift. It took 3 or 4 rounds of antibiotics to clear.I always used to get a drink and urinate as soon as possible after cystoscopy/TURBT.There are products you can buy in health food shops that can help to reduce infections from E-Coli.I have never taken anything like that but some people find them helpful. You would need to check whether they would be safe to take if you are having treatment or on medication.Best wishes Jane
Thanks you for that information, I have tried finding the website for that Cystitis and overactive bladder association but it does not seem to be connecting, but it appears they may well now be called Bladder Health UK as the phone no is the same, so fingers crossed!! Thanks again
