Hi all,
Can anyone help me on this one please?
I am due to have a 6 week course of mitomycin.
The nurse said 1st one they keep me there for the hour. Next time if all good I can go home once instilled and hold for the hour.
My concern is being able to hold off urinating for a full hour.
I currently don't feel I could do this as I get such a strong urge to urinate at roughly hour long intervals during the day currently. ( Just recovering from 2nd TURBT 3 weeks ago and catheter removed Wednesday just gone.)
What have your experiences been of this treatment please.
Thanks
Tomsk
Hello Tomsk, I have just finished a six week course of Mitomycin. I sailed through it without much discomfort. The first course/week one involved lying in a hospital bed for an hour. The following five sessions went without a hitch. My appointments were all afternoon based. I used to refrain from drinking anything for four hours before each procedure. This worked for me and the hour following each session passed quickly. Good luck. Garviv.
Hi Tomsk, my husband put up with it, because that's what he does. but he had terrible trouble retaining the Mitomycin. I had to drive home 'the pretty way' once or twice to avoid being caught on the motorway. We put a plastic bag with a folded towel on top on the car seat. Eventually he got Tena pants. You do have to wash/shower extra jolly well the minute you get in if you have leaked though, as any delay worsens the irritation of it on the outside skin. But I wanted to share this with the follow on that despite the increasingly short retentions as the course progressed, it has still worked against the cancer. He's been clear for several years now.
Hope this is encouraging for you,
Denby
