Hi
I had my six monthly scan about 4 weeks ago. Not really concerned about the gap and follow up consult, as I'm not having treatment and therefore; not a priority. In addition, I usually only get a bit anxious the day before results. I also have phone consults and invariably the appointments over run and I'd rather be waiting at home.
Yesterday was the day and I was due a call at 14:20pm, which came and went. After almost two hours, my wife called the appointments team, so I could keep my phone free and finally at 4:45 I received a call from a slightly dismissive registrar. No record of a phone consult, my scans hadn't been fully reported and she seemed completely clueless about my circumstances. She booked a new appointment for next week and said she'd follow up the scan and seem to think I had missed a "face to face" appointment
I have put in a complaint, because had I attended physically it would have been a waste of time, but more importantly, they had no record of the phone consult, which would have put me in the bad books. I think I was more upset about the Registrar's nonchalant attitude about the whole fiasco. I am really not happy about making a complaint, but I have and enclosed a copy of the appointment letter.
Hi Ianw,That is bad and I think you did right to complain.I haven’t had my phone appt despite being told I was in the system.I expect now they are leaving it until my scan results are in.It’s tiring having to constantly chase things up.I hope your next appointment is better.Best wishes Jane
Hello Jane/Ianw, there does seem to be a disconnect sometimes between patients and the medics. I have had to chase down my next cystoscopy, it was due 3rd week of March now have it finally confirmed for mid May, I was told they were running a couple of weeks late. I also requested to see a doctor as I was suffering from some pain and discomfort expecting it to be quite soon and have now have a date of July 1.
I really do not like keep chasing them down but feel a bit isolated at times and use this forum to keep me on the right side of sanity. Take care, Chris
Hi Chris,That is a long time to wait.Perhaps you could ask to be notified if there is a cancellation? Provided you can get to the hospital at short notice.I know our local hospital is very behind with appointments.Best wishes Jane
Yes I could try that route. They have just abandoned the Covid test before having the cystoscopy now, so one less journey to make. I never understood having to have a test for the cystoscopy but sit in the same clinic for other procedures that didn't require a test. Thanks.

I have to say that my Nurses are brilliant and I would usually go to them first, but my daughter (NHS OT) pointed out that, while they would probably deal with matter more than satisfactory deal with the issue. Records of the complaint might slip under the wire and this could happen again, so it's better to make it official.
Jacarandra,
I don't get the sense of isolation I used to get and coming on here definitely helps. However, I think it would give you some peace of mind to put the wheels in motion about the pain
I think your daughter is absolutely correct Ianw, the screening system needs to be efficient or people's scan results will slip under the wire. Question for your team is why haven't 4 week old results been fully reported and reviewed? Hope it goes more successfully at your next consult in a week's time, and that your cystoscopy shows a resounding all clear H x
