Hi all, like to give you a bit of history how I was diagnosed. Last year I unfortunately cought COVID and was rushed to hospital, as I was vomiting blood and very poorly. That was after I had both vaccines of astro. I was in hospital for three weeks. During this time I started to loose weight and a lot of blood so much I needed numerous blood transfusions. After I as the doctors said I was stable, I was discharged. A week later I was in so much pain and losing so much blood my partner called for an ambulance. After numerous tests in hospital and ultrasound the women was concerned about a shadow in my bladder and sent me to another department. While here I had a camera inserted which was very painful and they found an abnormal mass in my bladder their words. And was told not to worry. The doctors said the mass was as big as my bladder. After this they discharged me and I had to wait a month in total fear and pain before an appointment for a turbt. They also took a biopsy for what grade of cancer. Which I had to wait two weeks. Turned out to be grade 1. I had a further two turbt to remove the tumour over a period of three months. Third time my surgeon said third time luck hey! After the third turbt and removing all of the tumor, my consultant said I would need chemotherapy to stop the tumour returning which I am waiting for now. I have since had to have further camera s inserted into my rectum as I am bleeding here to, I'm just hoping it's not connected. I'm finding it hard to concentrate on day to day activities and my partner is also finding it tough, and we always arguing about the silliest things not sure are relationship will survive. Sorry for being so down.

  • Hi, welcome to the group. Sounds as though you have had a very unpleasant time. The chemotherapy is probably BCG immunotherapy, which many people here have had. The biopsy will have determined stage (how deep into the bladder wall) & grade (how aggressively growing). Grade 1 doesn't usually require any treatment other than regular checks, so maybe it was Stage 1, but Grade 2 or 3?

Once you have all the results & know what you are facing, some of the stress is lifted, even if not a good prospect ahead. It is the uncertainty & worry that affects concentration & emotions especially badly. Feel free to come & share your thoughts here, ask questions or just have a chat. Best wishes.

  • Hi Lawrence,A warm welcome from me too,I’m sorry you have had such a rough time. This is a friendly group.I hope you will find some support here.Best wishes Jane

  • Thanks for your kind words during this tough time most appreciated.

  • Thanks again for your kind and helpful words

  • Thank you much appreciated

  • Hi Lawrence, what a horrible time you have had. I was wondering if you have a Cancer Nurse Specialist assigned to you? I was introduced to mine at the meeting with the urology consultant to be told my biopsy results. She has been a great help throughout the four years I have been getting treated. I can phone her anytime during normal working week and she will always get back to me. Dealing with cancer we all need a friendly professional to translate the medical jargon. I think the diagnosis is stressful both for the patient and their partners, close family etc. Everyone is panic stricken it's a death sentence at the start, but there are lots of us who have received treatment and continued to live healthy lives. Please don't apologise for feeling down, we all totally understand your feelings.....we've been there too. Sending you cyber hugs. Hx

  • Hi thanks for your kind words.  no I've only just been assigned a nurse.

  • No apologies needed. The gaps in between treatment are quite normal, so try not to worry. I am a bit concerned about the somewhat cavalier language that seems to have been used, it sees rather impersonal. I would definetly try and speak to your specialist nurse, I find mine explain things in jargonless terms and are quite compassionate.  You can always talk  to the Nurses on this site, they are great

Glad you've come on here, you'll find a lot of help on support

It doesn't matter where you go, there you are
