I was wobbling on the ladder this morning attempting to put up the Christmas lights when I decided to have a minute. I had a reflection and a coffee. Yesterday we ventured in to town to move money around various bank accounts after discovering online banking is not pensioner proof. We boarded the “ old dodderers “ park and ride bus in Walton Le Dale with bus passes flying round - the perfect cashless society. Mrs Garviv and I wearing masks boarded the bus As soon as I spotted the man with the Texan cowboy hat I knew something was going to happen. First of all despite his hearing problems he decided to start a conversation with Lewis Hamilton who was our guest bus driver. His wife started to hurry him along. He tried in vain three times to pay his fare with a credit card before he was told to find his bus pass. He produced a mobile phone from his pocket extracted his bus pass and dropped his mobile phone on the floor. You guessed it while he was bending over to pick up the phone he lost his cowboy hat. Various good Samaritans helped him retrieve his hat and phone and get his ticket. He was persuaded not to try to put his bus ticket in the slot for used tickets by a gaggle of pensioners waiting to board the bus in the freezing cold. Our man with his wife made his way to the back of the bus without a mask. He was challenged by his wife to put his mask on. He stood up and searched his seventeen pockets not once but twice for his mask. It was already round his neck. His saintly wife patiently pulled his mask up for him. The remaining passengers boarded the bus muttering under their breath in unison. Lewis managed to drive the bus in record breaking time to get us safely into town. We alighted the bus before our cowboy friend stood up. I wish Terry Wogan was still with us. He would have loved this TOG story. In adversity their is still warmth and fun to be found. Christmas lights are now up and ready for inspection by four adorable grandchildren this weekend. Merry Christmas everyoneGarviv
Hi Garviv. Sounds like an interesting bus ride. Always nice when something puts a smile on your face. Time for me to get the deccies out. Can't remember if I packed the lights away carefully or just shoved them in a box. Always a surprise. Best wishes.
If you cannot laugh, you can only cry.
And crying makes my Mascara Run... :)
