Good morning all. I have had a radical cystectomy a month ago with ileal conduit and urostomy in place. Everything works well during the day but I am prone to leaks at night despite making sure that all the connections to the overnight collecting bag are very tight. Sometimes it just appears that the urostomy bag is leaking although it's difficult to see where the leak is. Has anyone had the same problem and how did you fix it? All suggestions gratefully received.
Hi Dolyrocket. Sorry I can't help with your question, but just giving your post a bump. Hopefully, someone with experience will be along to help. Best wishes.
Hi Dolyrocket
I had this problem when I first had Basil (my stoma) the connections kept coming off so I put sellotape around them and that helped. Also at that time I was stretching the tube to its limits.
I have since slept on the other side of the bed giving more leeway to the connecting tube. I sleep on my back and I don't move a lot. Do you move around a lot at night which if so, may not help.
I hope you solve this soon
Love Inanna x
Hi Dolyrocket,Sorry that you are having leaks.Has your stoma changed shape recently ? I found mine changed a lot in the early weeks post op and shrunk.I had to cut the hole in the bag smaller to prevent leaks. Also you might need one of the plastic plugs if your night bag does not fit snugly onto the day bag.I hope you can get this problem sorted soon.Love Jane xx
Hi Jane, Thanks for the advice. That actually agrees with a comment that my stoma nurse made recently when she said she thought I might need a smaller hole cut in the bag. I'll pick that up with her when I see her next week. Thanks again. Jan
Hi Jan,I hope it’s easily sorted. How are you feeling since the surgery ? love Jane x
Hi Jane, a bit floppy and tired but I think I'm making progress. I have to say though, having seen some of the catastrophes that have befallen others, I am so far getting off lightly, Fingers crossed. How are you keeping? Jan
Hi Jan,I felt the same in the early weeks,I got tired just making a hot drink.Hopefully you will improve each week and feel stronger with more energy.I think I got off fairly lightly complication wise.I was very unwell with paralytic Ileus but at least that happened in the hospital.I feel ok now apart from lower back pain.I’m waiting for x ray results.Best wishes for smooth recovery.Love Jane x
