First time back on here for a long time because I need your help folks. Quick recap my husband Ray has his RC Oct 2019 and recovered brilliantly. Unfortunately in June 2020 his ideal conduit twisted and the blood supply was cut off causing pus to spill all over his abdomen internally. He was very very sick and there was an emergency operation and a new conduit made using a new piece of bowel. Since then he has developed a large hernia and a prolapsed stoma which is causing him to have so many leaks because of the way it is positioned and the amount it protrudes. Although there is no obvious signs of cancer he also has an area in his kidney that they think is old inflammation but there is some deterioration in kidney function that needs to be monitored. There is now talk of an operation on his stoma and the hernia.

Has anybody had any of these complications and can offer any advice or good news because I am feeling pretty devastated when I should be pleased about the no cancer result. Ray is OK about it as is his way.

Thank you for reading this it has helped just to write it down

  • Hi JennyJJ, glad you made contact with the group again. I don't know anything about stomas but hope someone will pop up soon to share their experience. So rotten for you both to be dealing with complications and further surgery when a brilliant recovery had been made once. Doesn't feel fair. However your husband's pragmatic attitude will stand him in good stead again I'm sure. Sending you virtual hugs at this tough time. x

  • Hi JennyJJ,I’m so sorry to hear that Ray is still having complications.Perhaps the Ileostomy, colostomy and stoma support board would be able to help ? Love and best wishes Jane
