  • Its a bit scary when all the consultant and nurses talk about, are the risks with the OP and how quality of life may be effected.

    1. Hi Amelia,It’s natural to feel emotional and anxious at this stage.I vividly remember how I felt beforehand and that’s nearly 2 years ago.If you can take this time before surgery to get as fit as you can.Anything you can do to distract your mind will also be helpful. You might like to think about what you will need to take into hospital.I ordered a lightweight dressing gown.Your abdomen might be quite distended after the op so take loose fitting clothes for when you are up and about. My trousers wouldn’t fit so I wore my sisters lounge style trousers. She brought in a huge pile of pants but I found I was bleeding and leaking vaginally so needed extra pants and pads. You might not have this problem but better to take pads in just in case.I had books and puzzle books which were useful as apart from my sister on one occasion I had no visitors. The hospital water was horrible so I would have liked some bottled water. Some loose change is helpful for the trolley,I bought magazines. It is major surgery so they have to tell you about possible complications.Fingers crossed you will get through the surgery without any problems.Love and best wishes Jane x
  • Hi Jane, thankyou for advise, yes its emotional, and scary when they tell u about the  risks, you think about, am I gunna make it,  then can i cope living with a stoma, although you are all very positive about it on here xx

  • Hi Amelia,Will you be having robotic surgery and be on the advanced recovery programme ? love Jane x

  • Miine started off robotically but ended up open. The scars are barely visible now.X

  • Hi Jane, you have coped really well, i hope I can be the same, do you wear any special type of clothes to hide the stoma?
