My pre -op has now been booked for Monday 12 July regarding my RC, but as yet not got a date for the OP to take place, is this Normal?
I was also wondering how long after Surgery can you drive a car, plus how do you wear the seat belt if going on a long drive.?

Hi Amelia. Good to know things are on the move. No experience of this, so can't help, but just wishing you well. I am sure someone will be along to help. Best wishes.
That happened to me, I had pre-op straight after a consultation without getting a date for surgery. The pre-op results will be valid for a set period of time - if op delayed, you might need those repeated.
Generally it is at least 6 weeks post op before driving - you need to be able to do an emergency stop without experiencing pain. Also consultant may wish to check no risk of hernia. Other than trip home from hosp, I never had any problems with seat belt, but I have neo rather than stoma so perhaps less of an issue. Hope all goes well for you.
Hi Amelia55,I have a stoma. The trip home from hospital was over 40 miles and my stomach was huge but it wasn’t too uncomfortable with the seat belt.Unless the bag is very full I don’t think you should have a problem.I went for the pre op and didn’t have an op date.I was told that they usually have to secure a bed on icu/high dependency first.Love Jane
Hi Jane, reading your profile, was wondering how you feel about the stoma bag now its a year since you had it.
I am still apprehensive about it but it is gunna save my life, i worry as I have young grandkids and usually do alot with them, any tips on how to handle them without hurting the stoma?

Hi Amelia 55,I can’t advise you on the stoma and young children but I’m sure there will be someone here with experience.I do the garden and the last few days I’ve been moving furniture up and downstairs and the stoma is fine.I wear a stoma belt for heavier tasks to prevent getting a hernia.I empty the bag regularly.I’m finding the stoma much easier to live with than when I had Interstitial cystitis.Life then was dominated by having to know where all the toilets were every time I went out as I needed to go urgently and frequently.I think I’ve adjusted well to the stoma. It’s definitely been a life saver as my prognosis was grim.Love Jane
