Covid - clinically extremely vulnerble

Hi all

I recieved a letter yesterday from the NHS about being clinically extremely vulnerable.

I don't know what to make of it. I had my tumour removed 16th April and one dose of mitomycin-c and no further treatment. I'm just on 3 monthly Cystoscopies now.

While I am taking care out and about and not really mixing with others outside of my family when restrictions lift on 19th July I will have to start attending conferences again across the county.

Does this advice apply to me? Surely not! And if it does I guess I'll have to speak to my employer about the travel and attending these meetings 3 times a week.

Does anyone know anything about it? Or why I've been sent it?

Thanks

  • . Morning Clare. There has been a grey area regarding these letters throughout the pandemic and many similar posts across the board. Some people who should obviously have received one did not, while others have got them for no obvious reason. Why you have got one now while not having any treatment, I do not know. Maybe worthwhile contacting your CNS if you have one for clarification. You could try your GP, but we have found some GPs are non the wiser. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hi rily

My GP calls me every Monday to check in so I'll ask her when she calls tomorrow. If not I'll ask my CNS when she calls on Friday. Ha ha

  • Hi Clare, what a marvellous GP! Mine phoned me once when we got diagnosis of my bladder cancer treatment and I was very touched. I haven't yet got an extremely vulnerable letter but I did get them prior (or during) each lockdown. Media has it that all restrictions are lifting July 19th, maybe NHS are warning some people to maintain shielding? If so as you have this letter you may be excused travel perhaps?

  • Hi herothedog

As I've previously mentioned briefly last year my uncle was murdered and we had the trial etc, then my son in law took his own life and my cousin died very suddenly from bowel cancer she didn't know she had. Then this March I had the cancer diagnosis.

I think the GP is concerned about me as I've had a lot of stress over a short period of time, I'm very lucky and very grateful she calls me every week to check in; she's on the phone for about 45 mins each time too.

I don't know why I have the letter but I guess if we do start to travel out to conferences again it may be worth mentioning to by employer.

    Thanks for your response

  • Hi suecc

I'm guessing I've flagged up somewhere because of the recent diagnosis.

I'll continue to be as careful as I have been.... Smiley
