I had the last of 3 maintenance BCG treatments, in the middle of November, at Guys in London. All was ok, but now, 3 weeks later, Im suffering, still, with the after effects. Namely, constant wees and burning sensations when I wee. Have also got slight around my lower back. Spoke to urology nurse and my GP and both said it’s probably an infection. Im now on day 6 of antibiotics and it hasn’t shifted. Anyone been through anything similar?

Steve

  • I've only had the 6 induction, last one 2 weeks ago. Even now the best I can do is 2 hours between wees and when I do I get an aching pain towards the end. I do get lower back pain but I put that down to straining my back, maybe it's not the case?

  • Some infections need different antibiotics to others. Nitrofurantoin is often the right one but not always. I would let your GP &/or nurse know that you have not improved and ask if they can send a sample to be tested to determine the correct antibiotic.

Also if you have not already been swilling Robinson's Lemon Barley, try this. When I went with bladder twinges 40 years ago, my old GP reckoned if I got through a bottle [prob 750ml in those days] properly diluted, in 24 hours, I would not need the antibiotics, and I didn't. Hope it gives you some relief anyway while things are sorted out.

  • If it is an infection some can be hard to clear and as Denby says it’s important to make sure you have the right antibiotic.I picked up a hospital aquired urine infection after a turbt last year.It took 3 lots of different antibiotics to shift it.I hope you feel better soon.Love Jane xx

  • Hey Steve, I've not had BCG but I've had MMC, I had an allergy to this after the first dose where my bladder itched for an entire week.  Could it possibly be an allergy?  I've had treatment before for breast cancer which caused side effects after 12 doses, & for a long time after.  I always get a UTI after the TURBT, & the last thrice I've needed 2 lots of antibiotics to clear it up.
