Groundbreaking urine test that can spot bladder cancer proves 100% accurate in trials | Daily Mail Online.

This should be getting more coverage than it has, but then it's not one of the popular cancers - and if it was it would be front page news.

  • Wow. I hope that means swifter diagnosis. Mine went undiagnosed for 3 years even though I had been to GP 3 times and had urine test each time.

  • Wow also. Well spotted. And if existing cystoscopy capacity is not being used on patients who don't have BC, there should be shorter waits for patients needing routine checks for recurrences. Will be interesting to see how fast this is rolled out nationwide, and if there is a surge in diagnoses of people who would have been fobbed off like Herothedog and now get a positive for BC instantly and need treatment. but at least they should need less treatment with it being detected earlier.

Suggest all BC community whenever speaking to GP about any topic at all, mention this to spread the word. Got to be a good thing esp with Covid pressure on hospitals atm.

  • Very interesting, let’s hope it get rolled out as soon as possible.I had 14 years of pre-cancerous changes before they turned into cancer.I just wish my bladder had been removed before the changes as it was already badly diseased.Did any of you see Tracey Emin on the news or read about her bladder cancer ? I had the same type as her.Love Jane xx

  • I heard her on one R4 programme or another. The power of Art! Mr D and I sorely miss the Friday mental health Art group we used to attend. At least the leader, bless him, has taken to posting out newsletter-y bits most weeks, they are a real tonic.

  • Would be great if it could do away with cystoscopies. We'll have to wait.

Denby. I love Portrait Artist of the Year, although I always disagree with the judges. Envious of the talent on show. I have tried painting and drawing, but hopeless at it. Best wishes.

  • Hi Rily yes agree only had 4 cystocopys so lot fewer than others but although more uncomfortable than painful the procedure I find quite stressful getting your kit off in front of 5-6 people and then waiting for the thumbs up to thumbs down. to date I have had 2 clear cystocopy and 2 where the cancer had returned. Fingers x this test will eliminate the cystocopys.

  • Sounds to me that it would enable GPs to determine who needs to be referred, but you'd still need a cysto & biopsy for stage & grade. Hopefully would reduce the number of times that would be necessary. Talking about getting kit off, it amuses me that one can go & undress in a cubicle, only to then display oneself to all & sundry.

Can't say Tracy Emin's art show appealed to me at all. Though good to have BC talked about by a relatively young female, to counteract the idea of it being an old man's disease.

  • Hi T. You are right that you have to smile now and again about the indignities we go through. It must be difficult for ladies, but a bit easier for us men. No gowns. We just drop our pants and jump on the table. Get covered up with a sheet, and our bits sticking through a hole in it. What a sight it must be Grinning Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

Blimey, my hospital gets you to stick a gown on. Arse hanging out the back, hoisted up on the table and all dignity gawn!

  • Mr. D's Hosp favours the same as Rily's. Seems someone should stop the waste of laundry cost elsewhere if it is not necessary for gents at least, never mind wasted staff time on changing depending on how they work you getting ready and being 'done'.
