Hi All. How is everyone doing? Anyone stuck indoors? Remember, this is a support group, and things don't always need to be medical. There is usually someone here if you just want a chat, a moan, or any stories. My wife has been stocking up on paint, so guess what I will be doing in the near future. Best wishes.

  • We belong to a gym.and have 6 friends who went into nursing as cadets 60 years ago and they think practical training trumps a degree anyday One left the nhs because she was told she spent too much time with patients and not enough keeping her paperwork upto date John's nursing care was superb and I have written to the hospital which is a major cancer treatment hospital in Manchester beginning with Ch naming the nurses involved and commending them As one of my retired nurse says behind  a great Dr is an even greater nurse She did also say nurses make dreadful patients but I'm sure you are exempted xx

  • My wife would agree about modern training being poor compared to old school training.

  • Hi wilbert I am also a a resident in greater Manchester and the hospital you speak of is special to be sure my father was under their care from me being 14 after being diagnosed with throat cancer twice and beat it twice he used to look forward to his visits with them and at one point they wanted to use his case as a  research case for people with his diagnosis he was clear of any cancer for 17 years and was released back to primary care but unfortunately after all them years he developed Kidney cancer which unfortunately by the time it was found it was to late unfortunately symptoms presented to late who knows but they really are a good hospital it’s not somewhere I’m going to be involved with as yet as been told I will stay under urology for now within the trust but know if I was referred there I’d be in good hands

  • It's been quite emotional going with my husband .Shortly after we married my mum died in the hospital in 1969 I.can't believe how its changed altho I remember the name in the brick work by the Holt entrance We are dividing our time between the ch for Merkel cell and a private hospital at Cheadle for the ureter cancer Good luck and best wishes   xxx

  • Congratulations Wilbert, what a long successful relationship! The nurses were right, it certainly deserved celebrating. Hope Mr Wilbert is feeling better for being home. Love Hx

  • Hi Winkers and Wilbert, I agree there should be a sense of vocation in any of these public service jobs. Trouble is both nursing and teaching for example were mainly jobs for women and low paid. I'm afraid I think employers traded on our love and commitment to our jobs (vocation) to keep the wages low. I trained as a teacher in the 60s, and I had no idea what my wages would be till the end of the first month. It was £44pm Slight smile

  • Yes thank you he certainly is Although we have had 2 disturbed nights With me making tea and toast at 4&6 am xx

  • So low right now. Just about halfway through 4 cycles of chemotherapy which is feeling brutal. Nausea and exhaustion My hair is coming out in clumps. Then the RC or radiation route to face. Sorry to be a moaner but it’s blooming hard at times. Love to all. So pleased this group exists. Lucky I have support but it’s very lonely isn’t it at times? X
