Hi All. How is everyone doing? Anyone stuck indoors? Remember, this is a support group, and things don't always need to be medical. There is usually someone here if you just want a chat, a moan, or any stories. My wife has been stocking up on paint, so guess what I will be doing in the near future. Best wishes.

  • We went on the Waverley last year, from Gravesend up to Tower and back - amazing trip! Went under the Dartford Crossing and past all our old haunts..Erith, Woolwich, Greenwich ...we used to get the Thames Clipper up to Tower and then cycle back to Plumstead all along the Thames Path.

Southend was also one of our favourite days out!

Happy Days! We've since moved down to Hastings and love living by the sea - dont miss Plumstead but we often say we should go to Southend again.

  • As kids my dad's seaside day out was pretty much going to Hastings. Up the cliff lift to the castle and of course the caves. We'd finish off the day with a walk around Alexander Park. We have been back to visit the art gallery (not sure that's still open) and my wife's friend who did live there. Lovely to live by the coast particularly in weather like today.

  • Art gallery still here!

Yes I came here a lot as a child - my nan & grandad lived here. It's changed a lot since then!

  • It’s a horrible day here with heavy rain and wind.I’m tired after all the visitors last week but it was good to see them.My uncle is concerning us as he is so frail and not using the medical equipment he has been given. He sent a chair back and my cousin is finding him hard to deal with.I feel for her as my uncle is as stubborn as his sister my late mum.My strict aunt went back home last Thursday and we got on well apart from in the garden where our priorities clashed. It’s easier to work in another area and leave my aunt to potter at what she considers important. My sister came over when my uncle was here so that was good.Neither of us had seen my uncle for 18 months but we hope to get down to Dorset to see him again soon.Love to all Jane xx

  • Hi Jane, good to hear things are going well re the house, although it sounds exhausting. sorry i havent been in touch lately, I have been over focussing on bcg treatment starting and feeling a bit mentally frozen , (if you know what i mean)regarding the everyday normal chat in our lives. I have to remind myself that life still goes on outside cancer. This week I am focussing on the footy to take my mind off the bcg next week. Hope you are ok, much love Angela x

    Much love Angela x

  • Hi Angela,I shall be thinking of you when you start the BCG.I hope it goes well for you.Enjoy the football it’s good to have a distraction.I’ve lots to do but instead I’ve been looking at property online today.Love Jane x

  • Not the best week so far.My partner John fell in his kitchen. He says he is not badly hurt but may have to start using a stick indoors. His rare muscle disease is progressing which is concerning. The estate agent is coming over tomorrow to take photos and measure so I have a lot to do today. The mowing will take a couple of hours.I find it tiring as the grass is uneven but it badly needs doing.Love to all Jane xx

  • Hello Jane, sorry to hear about John it's always a concern because you don't want to be breaking anything, just have to be so careful. Good luck with the estate agent, I know they get a bad press, the last one who helped us sell my mum's bungalow looked about 12. I can't say too much as my father was one (old school), these days estate agents spring up everywhere and of course a lot done online, they even took a video of the property. I have kept on top of the mowing this year, determined not to let it grow too thickly. We bit the bullet and purchased one of those Gtech battery mowers, it has been one of the best ones I have ever had. Mind you you have to pick your moments between the rain to cut it. I can't believe how quickly this year has passed, notice the days starting to get shorter. Anyway I do hope it pans out well tomorrow and you get some decent offers. Take care, Chris.

  • Hi Jane, hasn't the grass grown thick and long this year. You get a few wet days, the sun is out and boom you have to mow at long cut, and then a second shorter cut. Double the work. My grass is also uneven and sloping in places.  I have a friend who cuts it weekly, otherwise I'd live in a jungle. I've just been told I have advanced osteoarthritis in my right hip, which would explain the limp which has crept up on me over past two years, and considerable pain with movement. Demoralising to be trooping back up to hospital in between cystoscopy dates. Ah well good old NHS, there for me again. I'm currently asking for an OT visit to suss out places for grab bars, bath aids etc and coping with feeling wobbly on my feet. Has John been offered any OT support like this?

  • Hi Chris.John has kindly offered to help me later.I’ve been cutting up foliage and haven’t even started on the mowing.I had 3 house valuations. The firm I have chosen are well established and have a good reputation. They seem friendly and helpful so far.I didn’t like the woman from the 3rd agents at all.I would rather go with someone I feel comfortable with especially as I am a first time seller and buyer. My neighbours 3 doors down had nowhere to go when they moved out the other week. They were so stressed I hope they have found somewhere now.Love Jane x
