Hi All. How is everyone doing? Anyone stuck indoors? Remember, this is a support group, and things don't always need to be medical. There is usually someone here if you just want a chat, a moan, or any stories. My wife has been stocking up on paint, so guess what I will be doing in the near future. Best wishes.
Silly question but how do you move them? I find it much easier theses days to shift heavy stuff like books or even laundry using the modern durable type shopping bags with the webbing handles that all the supermarkets do. You can hold a bag in one hand leaving one for the banisters.
And having to some extent been there and done that with my dad's books, always put an upturned box down before making a pile of books so you don't have to bend all the way to the floor. Maybe teaching granny to suck eggs, but if not, hoping useful.
Cheers,
Denby
Hi Denby,With difficulty ! I have to move them in stages if I’m on my own.Sometimes I put them in bags.Furniture is easier as I keep a piece of old carpet or cardboard to tuck underneath whatever I need to move.I find things will slide easily then. Some pieces are just too big for the reduced height on the landings. Those have to be dismantled but I’m proficient at reassembly.I’m fairly practical so that comes in handy.I’ve been rearranging the room where I do research today.I want to have one tidy room at least. How are you both feeling now ? Love Jane xx
Pleased to have got one room in the house tidy.I took before and after photos to help spur me on with sorting. My aunt is coming down in a couple of weeks to help out.She is 83 but fitter than I am.She is taking the railway books,I’m about to pack those up.My uncle ( mum’s brother) brain scan showed another stroke. He has an amazing gp who is arranging assessments for care and aids.My cousin is organising power of attorney. The sun is out and I have heard the pheasant.Love to you all.Jane xx
Hi Denby,I had a few railway books for research when I was planning to be a photographic researcher.Mum had several as well as books on science, geology, engineering. We have books on all kinds of subjects.I’m keeping my art books and Sarah is having the rest.I also plan to hang on to my photography books.I’ve built up a nice collection over the years.I’ve had some bought by friends as presents which are much treasured. The bookshop you recommended looks great,I would love to visit it sometime.I may well contact them if I don’t have any luck locally. The book barn not too far away is very different now.You need about 500 books in good condition before you can become a vendor. There are a few unhappy customers reading their reviews.Sarah has been over and says it is disappointing and not nearly as good.I hope you are both feeling better ? Love Jane xx
