My husband was diagnosed with what we think to be advanced bladder cancer yesterday.  The hospital just told us in a calous way and we left with no support or advice from either nurses or doctors, we feel so alone.

  • Hello and welcome to the community, although sorry to hear about your husband and that you have been left in the dark as to where you go from here. If you can let us know what your husband has had done so far, we may be able to help. Has he been given any results as to stage and grade etc? Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

    Hi,

We are waiting at present for a ct scan, then surgery will be done within 5-6 weeks.  Thank you for replying

  • Hi Caz4213. A Ct scan is standard procedure to give them a bigger picture of what they are dealing with. Is this the first surgery coming up? If so, it is a routine op to remove what they can. Usually done in day surgery or an overnight stay. Biopsies will be taken and the results then determine the next step. If it is confined to the bladder, then treatment can be successful. Best wishes.

  • Hello Caz

If either of you would like to speak to a bladder cancer patient who's been through it then I'll be happy to help you. I'm a trustee of a support group in Berkshire and advise new patients often.

I'll send you a friend request then you can decide if you'd like a chat.

I may appear to be listening but in my head I'm all at sea.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the reassuring reply.

  • Hi and welcome Caz4213, although sorry you had to come here, as Rily says if caught early it’s very treatable, otherwise loads of things can be done. It’s the waiting that’s the problem and seems to go on for ages. You’re in good hands with CB he’ll give you good info and hopefully you won’t be so worried. Come back to us when ever you need to. X

  • Hi Caz

So sorry for you both some of these doctors need to get themselves a better bedside manner I know they are dealing with this everyday but they should realise it is a big shock to the patient to be told you have cancer. Keep in touch with this group there is always somebody hear to help you people that are going through the same thing it makes a big difference. Lots of luck.
