Hi all,

I've recently been diagnosed with bladder cancer. I'm unaware as to what stage it's at yet as I only had TURBT on Tuesday 8th. It was very worrying, as I never had a cystoscopy, just an ultrasound which discovered a tumour on my left lateral wall.

However, when I had the TURBT, it was discovered that I had 6 papillary tumours, spread around my entire bladder.

At the moment, I'm very nervous at to what the future will hold, as I most certainly am not the usual age profile of your average bladder cancer sufferer, for want of a better word - I've just turned 44.

I know what the consequences of bladder cancer are once it's become invasive (my father also had bladder cancer, but he was diagnosed in his 70's), and I'm struggling to come to terms with what will happen should I have to have my bladder removed, and the subsequent loss of sexual function.

If there are others on here that have had bladder cancer at such a relatively young age, I'd love to hear from you and how you dealt with it.

Thanks in advance,

Nickfreckle.

  • Do you have a CNS? They are absolutely the ones to go to when you feel anxious or need to understand something like why are they calling me in sooner? There could be a number of different reasons. Consultants secretaries can't discuss medical things with you but your CNS can. Of course you are shaking, and by the way the reason we all want to hear about your experiences is because we are all on the same rocky road. We share the same problems. Most of us have been scared stiff. Hope you get to speak to your CNS today I'm sure it will help. Worse thing is not knowing. Sending love  x

I've spoken to my CNS, and I kind of wish I hadn't as she's made things worse in my little brain. I've switched consultants to someone whose main focus is bladder cancer- and they've pulled the appointment forwards due to the results of my CT and biopsy.

She wouldn't give me any further details, and said anything else will have to be discussed with my consultant next week. I tried to prise more from her, but I got the impression she wanted to tell me, but couldn't over the phone.

  • Hi nickfreckle. We know how hard the waiting can be. Try not to read anything in the timing of the earlier appointment. If you are seeing a different consultant, they will have a different appointment system. If you had your CT scan on Tuesday, it is unlikely they will have the results yet as the scans need to be analysed and takes a week or so. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

The CNS said they have the scan results - they were done on an urgent basis according to her. I did say that it was quick, and she she said yes, but we needed them right away.

It never occurred to me at the time, but after seeing a picture of my new consultant on the web, he was present when the scan was taking place.

    Hi Nickfreckle

I can understand you getting scared now you’ve been referred to a new consultant and your appointment has been pulled forward three weeks.

Look at it this way, it’s three weekend less to wait, and three weeks earlier to start any treatment you may need.

    sending you my best wishes

  • Aww Nickfreckle, that’s something you didn’t want but better to get on top of it straight away instead of hanging around wondering and well done phoning the CNS. Let’s just hope it’s something and nothing but worry you will as would we all.

Well done on the smoking thing as well, it’s so hard as I found out when I stopped after been told I had BC, please with the worry you have right now don’t go back as you’ve done so well.

Keep us informed on how you get on and I’m  praying it all goes well xx

    Sue Xx

Evenin' all. Well, tomorrow is D Day where I find out exactly what the grade is, and what the proposed treatment is. To say that I'm not s*****g a brick would be a downright lie.

I'm trying to be pragmatic and look on the bright side - but it's not really working.

For the past few nights I have had barely any sleep, and I'm feeling shattered.  The only saving grace is, tomorrow, I will know.

  • Hi nickfreckle. Good luck for your results tomorrow. When you know one way or the other what is happening, it takes away some of the anxiety as you know what you are dealing with and have something positive to focus on rather speculation. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

I agree with rily, once you know what's what, you can deal with it. Not knowing is very scary. I have everything crossed for the best outcome for you.
