Hi Everyone,

mums diagnoses: Pure SCC stage 3b t4a N0 M0

just a follow up from my last post about the surgeons adding on a 5th round of chemo, well they decided not to go ahead with the 5th round as the 4th round of chemo hit my mum hard and ended up in a weeks stay in hospital needing a 2 blood transfusions and magnesium and potassium drips.

The oncologist rang her whilst she was in the hospital bed and said they are not proceeding with the 5th round they are sending her for a CT scan and then it will be surgery. The news we have all be waiting for to just get this cancer out of her and try and get life back on track.

However today we got a phone call from the CNS and she said that MDT meeting happened yesterday and they want to have an MRI scan of the bladder cause the CT scan showed: thinning of the bladder wall (what was said to my mum) and reduced bladder wall (what was said to me)

my mum then proceeded to have a full blown panic attack and I wasnt that far behind her cause we dont know what this means. has anyone else had an mri scan after a CT scan before they have surgery?

naively I thought it would be a CT scan and then meet with the surgeon....any help on what thinning/reduced bladder wall could mean and then the thoughts on an MRU before surgey would be so helpful. I have been on tender hooks for months and just dont think I can take it anymore

  • Hi  . Sorry to hear mum has had so much discomfort with her ongoing treatment. Try not to overthink the MRI scan. It is quite common prior to further treatment. A CT scan gives a general overall view but an MRI scan gives a more in depth picture and can pick up soft tissue images a CT cannot see. It just gives them a more accurate picture of what they are dealing with to help with a future plan. I hope all goes well. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.
