Is it okay for me to take Paracetamol to relieve BCG discomfort several hours after release of BCG.

  • I think it’s ok, subject to your own health position, so a specialist nurse or Doctor is best to advise

  • Thank-you for replying. Today I took a paracetamol around 6 hours after BCG was initially (after the 2 hours it was held in the bladder) emptied from my bladder. The side effects got the better of me. It was only after taking it that I began to worry about it. Unfortunately it was outwith the hours the nurse who attends to me was on duty so I really had no one to ask, with immediacy that is, other than this forum. I’ll contact her tomorrow. I just hope it didn’t have any negative effect on the BCG vaccine.

  • I have been advised to take one capsule of Nurofen and two paracetamol, one hour before the BCG is given. This has helped me a lot. Severity of side effects is significantly reduced.

  • That’s good to know. I phoned the Urology Nurse this morning. Paracetamol does no harm. I like your idea though. Taking it before BCG. I had waited 6 hours (up to the time I no longer had to bleach the toilet) before taking it. One tablet and it did help.
