I was told that I have malt lymphoma rather than 'at least' stage 3 bladder cancer
Could there be a mistake? Would histology make a mistake? Do biopsies get checked by more than one person?
Hi Pictime …. I don’t normally post in this group but I noticed your post heading ‘Lymphoma’
I am Mike and I help out around our various Lymphoma groups……. your story is actually not that unusual as at times Lymphoma is found due to being investigated for other conditions.
I have volunteered on this community for over 9 years now and I have talked with many many people who are eventually told they have one of the 60 types and sub-types of Lymphoma on the back of other investigations.
When samples are tested at histology the initial investigations will obviously focus on the ‘suspected’ condition/cancer…… but if this is not found further in depth investigations are done and that’s when the real diagnosis is found.
I don’t have MALT lymphoma but I was diagnosed way back in 1999 at 43 with a rare (8 in a million) incurable but treatable type of Cutaneous T-Cell NHL (a type of slow growing Low-grade non-Hodgkin lymphoma)……. eventually reaching Stage 4a in late 2013 when a second, also rare (4 in a million) type of aggressive Peripheral T-Cell NHL (a type of fast growing High-grade non-Hodgkin lymphoma) was then presenting so although my Lymphoma ‘type’ is different I most definitely appreciate the challenges of this journey rather well……. I was also diagnosed with Asbestosis in 2012 and Prostate Cancer this April past.
