BCG Immunotherapy

I am up to bcg 21 and apart from the first one have driven home (about half hour) every time with no problem, but everybody is different.

Welcome to this forum.

I was kept in hospital for two hours for all of my BCGs and went home after my first wee.

My trust wanted me to rotate every 15 mins to coat the bladder, but not sure what difference rolling about on a bed for a couple of hours made, but just did what I was told.

I couldn't always keep it in for the two hours, 

However had no problems driving home, although had some urgency as the process went on, but if I left after instillation it would have perhaps been better.

I stayed at the hospital the first time then for every other one I travelled home by train and it was fine. 

Hello Paul, I stayed for two hours following the initial installation then went straight home after every procedure. I went home by bus to make the two hour wait for the toilet and domestos more interesting and stopped me sitting at home waiting for the two hours to elapse. Good luck.

Hi Paul, I’ve had over 20 BCG’s and I go straight home after installation..I’m not sure what is to be gained by waiting at hospital for 2 hours...I think hospitals have different guidelines on this…

I was advised by my Urology nurse to take Nurofen and Paracetamol [one each] or Nuromol [2 capsules] one hour before the appointment time for the BCG. It makes it much more bearable. I have not had any problems driving back although if I were you, I would use a Temu pad just in case. My main problem has been the systemic side effects like fever, chills, rigors, loss of appetite apart from brief blood in urine, urgency, frequency and occasional urge incontinence [I have used the Temu pads].
