Anaemia after BCG inductive treatment

Hi All,

I finished my inductive BCG 6 doses on 18th February. I had my pre-op assessment yesterday, before the cystoscopy with/without biopsy. This has shown anaemia, although I am taking iron tablets. I read on Google that Intravesical BCG can cause anaemia in 1-10% of cases. This anaemia seems to be iron-deficiency. Not sure, why. Could it be due to the 2 litres of fluid intake every day? I am fine otherwise and full of beans; playing golf everyday. Has anybody else experienced this? I am going to send a copy of the report to my GP, but I doubt if he is likely to be more knowledgeable than the cohort of people here in this forum.

  • Hi  . Sorry to hear about your anaemia. I've been on here a while and can't remember anyone linking it with BCG, but that doesn't mean it can't happen. The good thing is that you are still active as anaemia usually makes you feel tired. When I was first diagnosed a blood test showed I had pernicious anaemia and now I have to have B12 injections every 3 months. I think a visit to your GP may be a good idea. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.
