Hello  My husband had a turbt yesterday to remove a tumour.. No beds and staff shortages meant a quick discharge with minimal post op advice and no meds even though the consultant mentioned antibiotics .  He is suffering with bladder spasms and I wondered if there was any advice you lovely people coul offer? I had breast cancer a few years ago and found the website to be invaluable.

  • I suffered badly with bladder spasms and was guide oxybutinin to combat them somewhat as it relaxes the bladder. Lasted for about 5 or 6 days for me and then settled down.

I'd suggest asking your CNS for help or your doctor or go to A&E for help if that bad.

  • Thanks for the speedy reply. I will pass on your advice to my poor husband. It would have helped if he'd been given some post op advice

  • They don't often give meds for things they know people will likely have sadly. I think they hood give meds like that as part for course as they know the likelihood of things like that after.

  • Hi  . I have had a few TURTBTs and things have usually settled down after a few days. The main post op advice I was given was take it easy for a few days. No heavy lifting or strenuous exercise for several weeks. Most importantly, drink lots of water regularly to flush blood and debris out to prevent blockages. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.
