Check up scan

Looking for some advice please

My mum has bladder cancer and 6 weeks ago she finished her first round of immunotherapy (bcg)

She went for her camera scan today and unfortunately she had a urine infection so the scan has had to be rescheduled

She is really worried that having the infection could mean that the first round of treatment hasn’t worked or the cancer is coming back . Has anyone else experienced this ? Could the infection just be a side effect or a coincidence ? Rather than a sign of something more serious ? I know we won’t know for sure until she has a scan done .

is there anybody here that didn’t have  success with immunotherapy and if so what other options would there be ?
Her cancer is / was contained and not muscle invasive so classed as early stage

thanks

Katy

  • Hi Katy. Sorry to hear mum has an infection. I know how unpleasant they are . Infections during treatments are not uncommon, especially when catheters are used, so try not to read too much into that. I hope she feels better soon and can have her check up. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hi Katy, as Rily said infections are not uncommon. I had an infection in the middle of my initial BCG course. I ha a delay of two weeks until the infection cleared and I was able to continue. Good luck to you both.

  • Thank you for your reply , she has had. A lot of procedures over the past few months so it’s not surprising that she gets UTIs , I think she wasn’t expecting to have one as she has had six weeks off from it all and was hoping the UTIs we’re behind her for a while . I have reassured her and said that UTIs are common for lots of different reasons .
