Hi all. So out of the blue I had blood in my Urine once. Totally healthy before that. 2 weeks later 11th September , referred for Cystoscopy and on 7th October had TURBT to remove tumour. Surgeon indicated surface stuff so quite calm. However , at todays meeting had histology and CT results and told high risk, invasive and need bladder removed. Shocked doesn't describe it. On Friday I meet the surgeon consultant and have been told 3 treatment phase of chemo/ immuno first (although he couldn't say what as that's another consultants responsibility ). Head still spinning. Good news is CT scan shows no further spread. So now await treatment and surgery plan.
Hi Lincoln,
Yes it's a shock when we hear that the medics are advising bladder removal. I remember it well. (If you click on my name in green that takes you to my bio which does indeed sound similar to your situation, although my original surgeon didn't tell me anything after my TURBT.)
The other consultant you mention will be an oncologist I guess, at least mine was (and in my hospital the surgeons dealing with non-muscle invasive cancer are different from those doing the bladder removal, mine was a robotic op, as I think most are these days.)
It's a lot to take in but it's all tried and tested stuff and I'm very pleased that I'm living normally without my faulty bladder. Many others on here will tell you the same.
If they haven't given it to you already, there is a very good Mcmillan booklet on bladder cancer which can give you more information about what is ahead of you. It's downloadable. We always advise not to Google randomly but other trusted sources are Cancer Research, Action Bladder Cancer, NHS.
You'll have lots of questions as you go along and there are many here who can help and support you.
All the best,
