I was diagnosed with bladder cancer in October 2024. I had my first biopsy in march this year. I've had incontinence problems ever since after using ,4 pads a day.i be now had 8 rounds of bcg of which I find painful. After round 8 it felt like a red hot poker inside me burning my insides and I was bleeding for 12 hours.ive rung the hospital a number of times and all I get is I will pass the message on of which no one gets back to me.

I've decided not to go ahead with further treatment until I have more facts. Does anyone have any advice to give me as I'm at my wits and!

  • Hello Rabecca, welcome to this friendly and supportive forum. I have not had BCG treatment but do quite often have bleeding problems which vary from mild rosé to red wine. Even with red wine for several hours, A&E surprised me by being professionally unconcerned. After doing basic checks (BP, temperature etc.), they will check bloods for infection markers, kidney function and red blood cell count, compare my bag colour against a medical phone app (I have had long term urethral catheters since late 2018)  and if I satisfy all of those they send me home with an instruction to drink at least 2-3 litres of water per day. Also to try to avoid coffee or other drinks or foodstuffs which may irritate the bladder. Each case history will of course be different, so do pursue your GP  or cancer specialist team for advice if the bleeding is continuous or you have symptoms causing you concern or making you feel unwell. I hope you find some reassurance, treatment (if appropriate) and advice very soon. Good luck!!  Ray x

  • Have you talked to your specialist nurse? They should be able to offer some advice. Bladder irritation is unfortunately very common and for many to be expected. You do not specify you grade / stage - if you want to disclose, this may be helpful.
