Hi all,
I hope you’re all keeping well? I’m pretty bad at coming back here and keeping up with everything at the moment.
I’m just looking for some advice really around GemCarbo. My mums about to start this as her palliative care chemo. She’ll have 4 sessions over the next 6 weeks, before they do scans etc to see if it’s doing anything positive.
Have you been on this chemo? Did you have any/many side effects? What do I need to keep an eye out for, with her after treatment days. What can I get her to make things feel a little better during and between treatments?
Any advice appreciated x
Hi Green Eyed, Unfortunately I was on it and had toxicity problems after one session, was admitted to hospital for infection probably started by UTI which had early signs of sepsis, Unfortunately that's one of the main dangers, with oncologist advice the chemo was stopped, I am going back on it soon as immunotherapy not working.
There are a lot of side affects and everybody is different, she will be given leaflets with symptoms to look for, but keeping away from infection and people with them is the major one, in-between treatment just reasure her giving her confidence, less worry the better and treatment is painless, hope all goes well for her, stay strong.
Hi Green_Eyed_Weirdness4836b5 . I had Gem/Cis which is slightly stronger than Gem/Carbo and tolerated it quite well with no real bad reactions. It can be a long day in treatment for mum, so she needs to wear loose and comfortable clothing. Take some snacks and drinks and something to keep her occupied. Chemo can cause dehydration so try and make sure she drinks water regularly at home. Some people recommend a touch of lemon barley to help getting the water down. I hope all goes well. Best wishes.
