Reaction to Chemo Flush

Hi All

I was given a chemo flush after removal of my first tumor and this caused an allergic reaction my consultant has told me she has never seen this before I was just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem

  • Allergic reactions can happen with Mitomycin, I assume it's Mitomycin as that is what they usually use either after resection during a TURBT.

I started my mitomycin for 6 weeks last week and had to wait for 30 mins before I could leave after the first dose. Had my second dose yesterday and again I was fine, so in and out in no time at all.

One of the complications I read was something like 1 in 50 people have an allergic reaction to it so can't continue with the treatment with Mitomycin.

I'm guessing you one of the unlucky rarer people to have that reaction, so it will just mean potentially other treatment types for you, it's a journey that's is fraught with ups and downs,

So try not to be too worried over that for the moment. Easier said than done we all know.

I never had the chemo wash during any TURBT, and after 2 recurrences that's why I'm now on a 6 week course with 4 more doses to go.

  • Hi mavis13,I’m sorry to hear you had an allergic reaction. How are you feeling now ? I react to the CT contrast which is different to the chemo flush but it’s scary to have a reaction.I hope they can find something else for you to try instead that doesn’t cause you problems.Love Jane x
