Hi Everyone, hope your enjoying the sunshine and flowers . After a scan 5 weeks ago following a ultrasound , it seems my left kidney is retaining a bit of fluid . Consultant telephoned today saying further investigations are needed and a camera via the stoma will be inserted to see what the trouble is . I had an RC 6months ago and apart from one UTI and a few twinges and a bit of tiredness early on everything seemed ok . Anyone else had the same problem?
Hi, not sure what a camera will show. I am 13 years on from RC (I have neo) & now have annual ultrasound on my kidneys. Quite often shows 'pooling' in one or both kidney(s). If they have concerns, they order a renogram to check that kidneys are draining well, which they usually are. I have learnt to ensure that neo is empty before an ultrasound (despite what they say about having a full bladder). My guess is that post RC, there is a tendency for urine to back up in the kidneys (especially when lying down, and when bag/bladder full). Hope you will find all is well too.
Hi Quarry,I had swollen kidneys a while after the cystectomy. The urologist said this can happen post op.By the next scan the swelling had gone but the radiographer did say one kidney was working harder than the other.I have lost some kidney function but this can happen too.I hope it’s nothing to worry about.Best wishes Jane
