Hello all,

Looking for some advice please on behalf of my father.

He was discharged on 2nd April having had a transurethral resection of bladder tumour and given a mitomycin wash on the ward. Raised rash appeared on torso as well as on feet and hands on 12th . Felt dizzy on 19th and sick three times. No pain anywhere. He has been tired from 14th. Please could anyone advise on these symptoms (sickness in particular). Has anyone experienced these symptoms.

Thank you in advance.

Clare

  • Hi  and welcome to the group, although sorry to hear your father is not too well. People can have various reactions after a TURBT but what your father is experiencing is not something we come across here often and maybe should be looked in to. Infections are not uncommon. We are in to the long weekend now and so would be difficult to contact his team, Could I suggest you give NHS 111 a ring for advice to be on the safe side. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hello Clare, I did not have a mitomycin flush after my TURBT because my bladder had a strong tendency to bleed. However, my advice would be to contact the hospital and/or your GP. It is wise to report such symptoms as soon as possible so that appropriate treatment can be given if required. Not an easy task this weekend! rily's suggestion to ring NHS 111 is wise. I hope your father's symptoms can be eased quickly. Best wishes.

  • Hello, thank you for your reply very much appreciated. We will call 111 for advice. Thank you again, Clare

  • Hi Clare,Did your father get any help? I hope he did.Best wishes Jane x

  • Hi Jane,

Thanks for the message. We called 111 first thing and the duty doctor came about 30 minutes ago. Dr checked him over and has given him tablets for Labyrinthitis. Rash and itch/spots are separate to the dizziness and sickness it seems. Hopefully the meds will help. Thanks for checking in, very kind.  Best wishes, Clare x

  • I’m glad the dr has been out.I hope the medication helps and he feels better soon.Welcome to the group.Love Jane x

  • Thank you x

  • Hi just read this. The labyrinthitis - dizziness and being sick -  should respond to the medicine though it can take a while. It is usually caused by crystals in the ear canal (my husband had it and it can take a while to settle.) In France they cure it by manipulation of the head to get the crystals to move. But no one here seems to have heard of that. It seems to come out of the blue so I doubt that had anything to do with the resection or the mitomycin.

Re the rash, that sounds like an allergic reaction to me. I had something similar after chemo - I am allergic to lots of things. Your GP could help with that if it hasn't gone yet usually antihistamine works but if the rash is extensive - mine was - your  GP might prescribe a week of steroids as mine did.

Hope he feels better soon,. All the best,

  • Hello Latestart,

Thank you for your message. As you mention it will be slow progress with the dizziness and sickness, but there are small improvements each day, thank you. Head manipulation sounds like it would be beneficial, it's maybe a bit like CST.

The rash has improved, thank you, and he had thought the itching was due to the mitomycin wash. He had the itching from that the last time.

Initially we had thought it was all connected, but the doctor reassured my dad there were separate things going on.

Thank you for taking the time to message,  very kind.

    All the best,

    Clare xx
