Flexible check - another recurrence

Hi all

Having had an all clear Cystoscopy in Dec, this afternoon had my next 3 month check. Unfortunately a new recurrence ( I had a very small one in my Jul 2024 check). This too is the same superficial type and maybe about a cm. To be half expected I know, what really floored me was the nurse telling me the advice is not to fly long haul 8 weeks before or after the Turbt ! As I have long haul holiday booked in mid April and early June ( carried over from last year) I will have to cancel at least one or wait until end August to have Turbt - which I feel is not sensible at all. These is apparently new guidelines re flights after general anesthetic. My hospital does not do TULA yet Confused

I know I should be grateful not to have a worse prognosis but having lost all of last years trips ( my hobby is wildlife photography) I had hoped for better this year but hadn't factored in these new guidelines. Anyway just feeling a bit fed up.

  • Oh Jane,I’m sorry to hear this.It must have been a shock to find out about the flying on top of the recurrence.Sending a virtual hug.Love Jane xx

  • Thanks Jane, the recurrence whilst disappointing is of course likely. Any form of no flying had never previously been mentioned.  I wonder how my insurance will react ?

  • Hi Bicyclegirl,

Sorry to hear about your reoccurrence, must be very disappointing, but sounds like you're doing ok.

As for not flying after the TURBT for eight weeks either side, did they give a reason? I've just checked my travel insurance and I have to wait six months if I stay in overnight, but if I'm an out patient then it's ok.

Sorry to hear that it's messing up your plans.

    Kindest Regards

    Trevor

  • Thanks Trevor, I think I should check with my Travel insurer.

  • Hi Bicyclegirl, sorry to hear your news about the recurrence. I had two superficial recurrences which were successfully removed. I have had spinal injections and general anaesthetics for my Turbt procedures. Would a spinal injection be an option? Garviv

    Garviv

  • Thanks Garviv, I did wonder about that.  I will have to ask the CSN about it being an option.

  • I did just read the CAA advice online to quote

"It is appropriate to allow one to two days following keyhole surgery and between four and five days for simple abdominal surgery. Major chest or abdominal surgery requires a period of approximately ten day"

    !!

  • Well insurers say follow doctors advice, the hospital are sticking to their 8 weeks before and after Turbt. So Op now on 4th April and holiday will have to be cancelled. As waiting until mid June earliest for the Turbt is clearly not sensible.  Wish they did TULA in my region.
