Hi I am new to this site, just to say I finished 3 years Bcg treatment last January, did 24 out of the 27, Had a flexible camera in October which was still all clear of cancer, now on 12 monthly checks , just asking  the question I am still peeing fair bit. Some people say it effects the bladder lining, Anyone know if this is true.

What are the the long term affects of BCG treatment. Anyone else in same position

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to this friendly and supportive group. Good to know you have finished your BCG and great to hear the all clear. Not had BCG myself, but we know it can have all sorts of unusual side effects. I am sure others will be along to share experiences. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hi Phil,

Welcome to the forums, great to hear you've finished your BCG course and you had the all clear. Although sorry to hear you're having issues still.

You've done more BCGs than me (15 so far), so I'm not sure I can offer any great advice.

After my last BCG it did take a few month's to settle. The BCG causes inflammation of the bladder, which I believe causes the urgency etc.

My October 2024 biopsy I had inflammation, but my January 2025 had no inflammation and I've noticed the difference for sure.

Although your cystcopy in Oct would have picked up the inflammation.

Saying all that I have asked my consultant about the long term effects of the BCG on a few occasions and was told things should get back to normal after the course.... I hope he is right.

I'm sorry again for not being able to offer any real advice, do you still have a Cancer nurse specialist that you can call?

I wish you all the best and hope you get some more conclusive answers soonest.

    Trevor
