Bladder Ache after BCG

Hi Lynn, I had quite a reaction to my 6th induction BCG. It really stirred things up big time, in my case my bladder and prostate. Frequent and urgent visits to the loo round the clock. I spoke to my specialist nurse (wonderful person) and she organised medication to cal down the bladder and the prostate. 

I suggest you contact your specialist nurse - it’s beyond most GPs to help.

Thanks Leo, I dont have urgency or frequency just a dull ache not bad enough for painkillers more annoying than anything, will give my CNS a call tomorrow. Hope you are well and getting more sleep now. Lynn x

Aches and pains have been normal for me. In fact, my symptoms on recent doses have been severe so please don’t be concerned about your bladder aching. I’m living on naproxen at the moment so the fact you haven’t needed a painkiller is a plus (and I’m very jealous!)

Hi Leo. I’m suffering similar to you so I’m interested to know what medication you were given to ease the side effects? My nurse seems to think if I take paracetamol and drink lots it will go away but it doesn’t!

I was given https://www.nhs.uk/medicines/mirabegron/about-mirabegron/ for the overactive bladder and https://www.nhs.uk/medicines/tamsulosin/ for the enlarged prostate. They are working well. They can take several weeks to kick in. Both proscribed by the consultant, not GP. Contact your consultant.

Most NHS professionals are sadly unaware that 7% of the population have genetic differences in the liver enzymes made, so that for some people paracetamol simply does not work. Does it work for you on other kinds of pain? If not you might perhaps be in the 7%.
