Reading what others have been going through they talk about BCG is this the same as mitomycin as this is what I have been told that I am having for 6 weeks
H,
My understanding is that Mitcomycin is a chemotherapy drug and BCG is basically is a vaccine (TB).
Both are injected directly into the bladder via a catheter. I haven't had mitomycin, I've been put on the BCG course.
I think that BCG is administered for the higher grade BC diagnosis cases.
I hope my understanding is correct, but I'm sure more knowledgeable people will be along soon.
I hope your treatments go well.
Kindest Regards
Trevor
Hi Forestranger . Mitomycin is a chemotherapy drug aimed at killing off the cancer cells. BCG is an immunotherapy treatment which triggers the immune system to fight the disease. Both are administered the same way directly in to the bladder. Mito is believed to have fewer side effect but it depends on the individual. There are pros and cons for either treatment. Best wishes.
I had 15 BCG up to August 22 then 6 mitomycin in July 23. I’m presently waiting for biopsy results to see progress
Thankyou I will let you know after the first treatment has taken place
I haven’t changed this is what was offered at my hospital as I am new to this I am waiting to see when I start , they did say it may take up to two weeks
How did you find the mitomcyin did you have any problems after?keen to know what I might be heading for as I know every body is different
