I have mentioned before that my husband had a radical cyctectimy in September. Recovery is slow which I know us pretty normal. However he keeps getting urine infections and has to be admitted to hospital for iv antibiotics each time. Has anyone else experienced this. Any help or advice would be great

  • Hi Farinelli

I had Bladder removed In August

I too am having Urine Infections which is quite worrying, I have had 3 Infections so far , I don't get admitted to hospital for iv antibiotics

My Doctor just writes me out a prescription each time for antibiotics! I'm not sure if this is quite common so I too would like to know of other peoples experience

  • Thank you Anya. Be interesting to hear other people’s experiences

  • Hi Anya,Do you know which bacteria your samples have shown ? It’s worth asking and making sure you get repeat samples when you have finished the antibiotics. The last infection I had pre op required 3 or 4 rounds of antibiotics as I got it in hospital and it was stubborn to shift. It was a rarer type of streptoccus which took days to show up in the lab. Some people here find cranberry juice or capsules helpful,I think it’s E. coli bacteria that cranberries are good for.My surgeon said infections can be a problem post op.Love Jane xx

  • Hi Farinelli,I’m sorry your husband keeps getting infections.I hope the antibiotics help.Love Jane

  • Thank you Jane

Thats food for thought as I would never have thought to ask, I will certainly now follow it up

Never got infection in the hospital just at home Lv Anya xx

  • Hi Anya,I mentioned it as in the past I had constant infections and a few times was on the wrong antibiotics. If I didn’t feel better after the course I always asked whether they could repeat the urine test.Love Jane x

  • Yes Jane

I have just finished a course of antibiotics and I will send in another urine test as I have a feeling the infection is still not completely left me Lv Anya xx

  • I hope it goes soon Anya x

  • Hi Anya. Sorry to hear you have had infections too. I know they make you feel very low.   Have you got your appetite back yet?  My husband does not want to eat at all and this obviously contributes to the weakness.

    brst wishes Angela

  • Hi Farinelli

I Have another UTI infection getting more antibiotics, I am seeing doctor next week maybe I will get a blood test

To be honest I had to chase up my GP surgery as I need them to investigate why my infection is not clearing up

At the beginning my appetite was poor then I started by eating every food I loved this helped my appetite back to normal
