Hi there. I think everyone underestimates the magnitude of this op, and just how much it takes out of you. The general rule is one month for every hour in surgery to fully recover. Although I was gradually picking up activities post op, was 8 months before I was doing a normal week without fatigue at the end of the day. 

When you say pain, how severe & where? There are all sorts of aches & twinges as you heal & get muscles operating again. Can also be painful as neo fills. How is the training going? Might you be over doing things? Snack in between meals to keep energy levels up & rest when needed. Worth asking advice from your hosp re the pain. Best wishes.

Hi Gillmc,I had a stoma.I started feeling a lot better after 12 weeks and by 8 months I was able to return to caring for my mother.I had a lot of aches and pains the first few months.I did go to the dr about bowel pain as I got paralytic ileus post op.I think most of us found the recovery slow.It’s important to rest when your body tells you.I found I would feel sick if I did too much.Strangely I get that now over 3 years later and stop what I’m doing.I try not to let it get to that stage.It will get better.Love and best wishes Jane
