My mom recently started bcg treatment for non invasive bladder cancer. It is constantly making her get up through the night needing to wee. Guess this is good proves its making bladder angry fighting off any stray cells. She is 80 and struggling with mobility at best. Any advice. Thanks. About to have 4th treatment tomorrow. 6 in total
Hi Redwine40. Sorry to hear mom is having nasty side effects of BCG treatment. Although I went a different road, we know BCG has many varying effects. The general advice is to avoid coffee and strong tea. Is mom drinking plenty of water which helps? Some people fall in to the trap of not drinking thinking it will help stop frequent urination. This has the adverse effect on the bladder. The urine becomes concentrated and acidic and irritates the bladder causing the feeling of needing to go even if there is nothing there. If mom can drink water regularly during the day and stop a couple of hours before bedtime, it may help. Your mom's GP may also be able to prescribe something to help. Best wishes.
