  • Hi Pink bird,I’m sorry you are suffering with your bowels. It’s quite common to get bowel problems after a cystectomy. Are you on a low fibre diet ? I found my bowels started to work better once I was off the diet. The diet helps the bowel recover from the surgery but it doesn’t help the constipation.I had some discomfort but no cramps.I would get some medical advice if the pain and cramps are bad.Hopefully all will be ok and you can be given something to help.Best wishes Jane x

  • I was on a soft diet but back to normal now. I saw specialist nurse yesterday and she said to expect some issues but this cramping is awful and wondered if others had the same. I may adjust my diet for a few days to see if it settles.

  • Hi,Yes perhaps if you go back to the diet things might improve.I can’t remember how long I was on it but I did introduce more usual foods gradually. My surgeon said bowels don’t like having surgery and that is why they often play up.I hope you feel better soon.Love Jane x

  • Glad to hear you are safely through the op & back home. Sorry to hear about the cramps, that does sound miserable. Bowels can be very erratic post op, anything between constipation & urgent looseness. I certainly had that, but not especially painful. Are you still on painkillers? They can cause constipation too. Walking will help your innards get back to normal & I'm told that chewing gum does too, although I never tried that. As Winkers says, worth noting if particular foods are a problem/helpful. I have to be careful about eating a lot of creamy, fatty, rich food or I may be rushing to the loo soon after. Hope you feel better soon.
