Hi I've been told it is non evasive but highly aggressive,

Have had 2 TURBT and got call saying I have 2 choices bladder removal or BCG treatment have elected to take BCG witch starts tomorrow. What has shocked me is it's 6 weeks on 3 off then 3 on 3 off continuing for 2 years .

I remember my doctor saying out of all cancers bladder is the easiest managed lol.

Why 2 years when I read it's normally less.

  • Hi Terry sorry to hear you have had to join this group but it will give you a lot of good advice and help .. I was diagnosed with grade 3 aggressive non muscle bladder cancer last December had turbt in February then 6 treatments of bcg treatment in March/April I then had a cystoscopy to check how it was doing and thankfully all clear .. I started first round of 3 maintenance treatments August 18th,25th and September 1st.. check again then another set of 3 treatments in about 3 months  ..this seems to be the course we have to follow ..hope this helps ..I haven't found the bcg treatment too bad so far ...painful on first day but quite manageable.. I hope this keeps up take care Tina x

  • Hi Terryt1, your post makes me want to tear my hair out. Reason, not you but your doctors, if your cancer may be treatable with BCG then there is very probably a third option for you, but so many doctors fail to mention this. If the BCG does not stop recurrences, people can carry on as many on this forum have, with repeat TURBTs and ongoing BCG. Or you can have Mitomycin [chemo] into the bladder very like the BCG. This has worked excellently for my husband. I do get that some people would prefer massive surgery and life changes to their fear that some bad cells might still be in them, but if the cancer has not spread why on earth would doctors offer surgery without trying all non surgery options.

Anyway that's my take, but I hope your BCG proves very successful, with minimal side effects.
